December Blog – 2021

Time

December is here again!  I’m not sure where the Time went this past year, but I have the same question as Dr. Seuss asked. “How did it get so late so soon?” I can still hear my mother-in-law say, “enjoy life while you are young!” I have a lot of good memories of my youth, and now I am in my mid-70s remembering her line. So, my encouragement is, “enjoy life while you are still able. I certainly cannot do all the same things as when I was young, but I will say I am fortunate. Having good health, a loving family, good friends, and keeping the faith are blessings, and I am grateful! I know many people who are suffering from an illness, personal challenges, and the list goes on. Time feels like it is flying by, but I aim to enjoy life to the fullest.

I have a friend who is turning 100 years old in December. Her husband lived to be 101. They were two loving people who were examples of living life to the fullest. They played Scrabble almost every week and were volunteers for many different jobs throughout their lives. They indeed were mentors to me and reminded me, no matter how old we are, we can give and care about others in many different ways, and they did.

Time is essential, and every minute counts for what I’m doing with my life. What I’ve discovered in this season in life, we have many opportunities to be involved with helping others. Whether it’s giving money to charities, making food for someone in need, supporting those going through hard times, or volunteering for a local organization. I’m meeting many people over the age of 70 who are keeping active, spending their Time by giving back. Their lives reflect what they do with their Time,  not how old they are.

“How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” ~Dr. Seuss
